About the Facility – W.G. Salisbury VAMC (Hefner VA Medical Center)

Since 1953, Hefner VAMC has been improving the health of the men and women who have so proudly served our nation. We consider it our privilege to serve your health care needs in any way we can. Primary and secondary inpatient health care is available to more than 287,000 Veterans living in a 21-county area of the Central Piedmont Region of North Carolina. This includes the Charlotte area with over 100,000 Veterans, and the Winston-Salem area with 65,000 Veterans. In addition to our main facility in Salisbury, we offer services in three community-based outpatient clinics/health care centers. These clinics are located in Charlotte and Kernersville. Inpatient services include acute medicine, cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, as well as sub-acute and extended care. Primary and specialized outpatient services are provided at the medical center complex and the outlying clinics. Services are also provided at the Veterans Outreach Centers in Greensboro and Charlotte. Contractual extended care is provided through an extensive residential care treatment program and a community nursing home program.

Responsibilities

The Community Living Center RN will serve as a staff nurse and will evaluate clinical practice and initiate change based on current concepts and findings from research and/or evidence-based studies.

• Performing diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures appropriate to the CLC's practice setting.
• Shall provide leadership in interpreting, supporting, and implementing Medical Center and Nursing Department philosophy, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and quality improvement processes; accepting responsibility and maintaining accountability for actions and continued professional and personal growth.
• Serving as a consultant in clinical practice.
• Communicating and working effectively with others.
• Initiating and leading groups of personnel and interdisciplinary groups.
• Establishing relationships with professional and/or health related groups within the community.
• Must have good organizational skills which enable completion of work.
• An ability to assume leadership duties.
• Ability to establish effective communication with residents, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Should have a working understanding of cultural transformation, creating a home-like environment, a dedication to improving the quality of life for the residents and provide physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual support and medical care for residents and/or significant others during the time surrounding death.

Requirements

• Shall have a current license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
• Current certification in CPR/BLS and ACLS by an American Health Association Vendor.
• Must have a minimum of one year experience within the last three years; VA experience is desirable.
• Must have three references, one must be current or must recent supervisor.
• Immunizations must be up to date, to include COVID Vaccine (boosters required).
